It goes both ways. You run across a few words in Japan that sound Spanish. The one I can remember: bread is "pan" in Japanese. They picked the name up for this new kind of stuff from the Spanish.


It is more likely it's a result of it spreading to parts of Iberia by Muslims in the 6th-8th century. They also use a "Cha" variation from the Arabic.
